Welcome to Women Against Sarah Palin

Well, McCain has shown just what a maverick he really is by choosing a darling of the radical right.

Please feel free to use this space to sound off about Sarah Palin. No obscenities, no insults, please. There are plenty of problems with Palin's candidacy without resorting to personal attacks or nastiness.

I do not understand why the Republican Party think they can put up just any old female candidate and expect Hillary's supporters to flock to her banner. When Sarah Palin announces she has changed her mind and is pro-choice, I will consider voting for her, but not before then!

A friend sent me one of your emails.

I must say I'm very disappointed by the quality of the anti-Palin sentiments -- indeed your email talks about her decision (I believe her _choice_) to return to work just after having her baby. If she'd wanted leave and been told she couldn't take it, fine, but I cannot believe you're slamming another woman for choosing to go back to work right away.

It's sites like these, and attacks like the ones you're mounting, that convince me (a 40-yo single mother and lifelong Democrat) that the Democratic Party thinks feminism is grand only when it's for its friends. I've had more than enough of institutional sexism from the right -- I live with it daily in the construction of child custody and support laws -- and I don't need to hear it from you guys and the Democratic party, too. Really, the two of you sound like you're about 26 years old, Quinn and Lyra, and let me tell you, right now you're still feeling the benefits of living as honorary men. When you get a little older, especially if you have kids, you'll find that there is absolutely no percentage in tearing down other women, whatever you may think of their views.

You've helped to confirm me in my decision to write in Hillary. Do I think the GOP will do better for women? Not a chance. But I'm too old, work too hard, am too experienced with the realities of the dreamy social programs you probably support, and am too good at getting by on my own to hang around supporting candidates who so plainly disrespect women.

Common Sense First said...

People need to look at what any given candidate- male or female- stands for in order to decide. Sarah Palin supports aerial gunning of wolves, despite public outcry in her state against it; she tried to ban books from the Wasilla library (censorship in American society- is that what they mean by "government getting out of the way of people?) and threatened to fire the librarian if she did not do as she was asked; she is not convinced that global warming is attributable to humankind (this is SHOCKING); she wants to take the polar bear off the endangered species list and drill; she doesn't support a woman's reproductive rights, she got her first passport only in 2007, doesn't understand foreign policy- or even the role of vice president-- and according to reports she was an unethical and poor administrator....not to mention, she is a religious fundamentalist. Is this the sort of person anyone would even remotely consider to be a heartbeat from the president? The thought is utterly absurd. That she was picked by McCain, who barely knew her before he made the pick- speaks volumes about his lack of judgment.
So please, all of you who bring the feminism issue into question regarding Palin or no Palin- this is NOT a feminist / woman issue at all! This a presidential election during crisis times that everyone must take seriously - and certainly more seriously than Karl Rove does.

Gail Collins said...

This whole Sarah Palin thing is very stressful. The thought of such a personality being a heartbeat away from the presidency is something that MUST be addressed. If the dire duo of McCain and Plain were to be elected (which looks more and more possible) we'd be back in the Dark Ages. Her views are so radical that I find myself having difficulty comprehending them. Unfortuntely, people see a rather attractive former beauty queen who is thriving on media attention: and they fail to see the true issues (which are NOT being addressed). Plus, we are ruuning out of time. If we don't wake up, we will no longer be the 'Home of the Free'. It is uncertain what we WILL be - but one thing for certain, we won't have any rights, any books to read, animals left on earth, air to breathe, ways in which to use our minds - Good Grief! Are people this stupid? Perhaps they are - but someone needs to do something very quickly. Obama and Biden and everyone who supports them have waited too long already. The truth HAS to come out. I'll pray for our country, and my husband and I will continue our support. But we need EVERYONE on board.
One additional thought. I want someone to ask Sarah Palin why SHE did not serve in the military. They keep asking Obama, and she is infintely more qualified. She handles big guns, kills, stomps over everyone and everything in her path to get what she wants, and more. Having kids is NO excuse to not servie in the military: if she can be VP (ultimately President, which is her goal) she should be asked the question. The entire world is watching us: our country is being held in the lowest regard it has EVER been; due to this protracted, horrendous, misdirected conflict that is called a WAR. It doesn't even deserve the distinction. Foreign Leaders are pleading for us to stop the needless killing of civilians: which is happening due to having troops in the wrong place. As a military wife of 50 years, and having lived all over the world, I can promise that we won't get away with this attitude much longer. And I don't believe it's "God's Will" that we continue on this self destructive path. Our conuntyr is at RISK, our personal freedom is at risk, we must ACT NOW. Pass the word along, PLEASE.

I applaud Sarah Palin's confidence and star performance abilities. Admirable for PTA stage in 1950. I cringe at everything she would want to do to this country. Imagine what the country would be saying about her if she were a man championing her political positions.

Most of my friends and family are in PA, NY and FL. The population of Alaska is about the same as a county in one of our states.
For example, according to the US Census Bureau:
Pennsylvania has over 12 million people.
Florida has over 18 million people.
New York has over 19 million people.

In Alaska there are only 670,000 people.

This is 1/2 the number of people as live in Nassau County, NY.

This is 1/2 the number of people as live in Palm Beach County, FL.

This is about the name number of people who live in Montgomery County, PA

Not all governors have the same amount of experience.
Scary, huh!

Get out and work, work, work to make sure that Barack gets elected!

"She handles big guns, kills, stomps over everyone and everything in her path to get what she wants, and more."

This is exactly the kind of rhetoric that's damaging to _all women_. Criticizing her for behaving in a way that's made her very successful in a man's world -- if you think that's smart, think again.

We are really very far from second-wave feminism now, and this nomination is showing me just how much has not made the jump to the next generation. Ten or 15 years ago I started seeing all this sparkly "girl power" baloney show up, along with the "feminism means sexual power" porn movement. I wondered at the time whether it would end up being damaging. It is, but not in the ways I'd guessed.

It seems to have been damaging in the sense that many younger women genuinely do not understand the bases of the few rights we have. They are predicated on the idea that women are capable adults who can make decisions regarding their own bodies, families, money, and career. That we do not need men's _or_ women's approval in these matters. They're also based on the idea of equality. Employers MAY NOT DISCRIMINATE against women for not seeming "ladylike" enough, or for their family status. That's illegal. Those laws are the result of decades' worth of fights. Decades.

If women attack Palin and say she's not competent to serve because she's not nice and ladylike enough, or because she's got a baby, how in the hell can we expect the legislation _that serves women_ to stand?

"Equality" does not mean "equality for my friends" or "equality for women I like" or "equality for women who behave in a way I associate with femininity and sisterhood". It means equality, period.

Attack her policies, attack her executive record and political positions, but DO NOT ATTACK HER PERSONALLY and DO NOT ATTACK HER MOTHERING CHOICES. This is not fifth grade; this is hiring for the vice-presidency. Think a little bit about what you're doing here.

She scares the crap out of me. I have been an Obama supporter since the beginning, but my whole family is Republican and they actually think she is a wonderful VP choice. I'm afraid that if by some horrible circumstance if McCain is elected that he'll drop dead and she'll be leading this country--goodbye polar bears, wolves, Alaska wilderness and look out everyone who opposes her as she'll figure out how to get you fired for not supporting her.

It's a little too easy to bash Sarah Palin.

It ignores the fact that she has given the Republican Party a bump in the polls.

This tells us much about the emotional intelligence of the American public.

If Obama doesn't find a way to emotionally educate voters, once again the Democrats' energy will be spent being bewildered by those who are hurt by Republicans - voting Republican!!!

We as Democrats need to wake up and come up with strategic ways to positively enhance the ethical platforms we embrace.

Attacking another that someone believes in simply isn't effective -

I'm mystified - what works?

I am from rural Pennsylvania and a Republican. I hunt, I fish, I raised 4 daughters, and I have 4 grandchildren. I am a devout Christan woman married to the same dear man since high school. I admire Sarah Palin and can relate to her experiences as a mother, grandmother, and wife. She does NOT represent me politically, as I want my daughters to have the right to choose what is right for them, even if we disagree.

At this critical historical moment, we cannot afford a president who is even more anti-science than George Bush.

Yes, I meant to say "president."

Sarah Palin must be evaluated in terms of her qualifications to be president because:
1. The average American male life expectancy is 73.6 yrs
2. McCain, a 4-time cancer survivor, is 72
3. Historian Doris Kearns Goodwin notes that in American history, VPs have had to complete the terms of the president in a third of all presidencies -- and all of those guys were younger!

Palin is woefully unprepared, on record as recently as a month ago saying she did not know what the VP job entailed.

Worse than her lack of preparation, I am concerned about the fact that she keeps saying things about her own record and the Obama-Biden records that independent fact-checkers find untrue. Clearly she's proud of being sarcastic and "tough" but she really crosses the line by repeatedly lying with such ease.

Her record of abusing power by firing people she doesn't like or whose religious views are different from hers are so concerning at a time when our country is in the middle of an invesitgation into political views inflitrating hiring in the supposedlly non-partisan justice department. Palin makes George Bush look fair, nonpartisan and neutral.

America needs to move forward instead of backwards -- we used to lead the world in science and technology, and Palin promotes teaching religion in science classes, gutting the budgets of public schools, not supporting pregnancy prevention programs that are proven to reduce teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases.

Her blood-thirst -- for the war and for killing animals from helicopters -- are personally appalling to me, as is her general approach to the natural environment.

The fact that she attended 5 colleges in 6 years, is further cause for alarm. I honestly don't see one attribute in her that qualifies her to be president or makes a compelling case for her, especially since her self-presentation is full of so much dishonesty.

Sarah Palin?! It seems appropriate to repeat a quote from a summer campaign speech by Bill Clinton: "Give me a break!" As a woman who championed women's rights in education and the workplace since the 1960s, I never envisioned a women with Palin's warped views would be a heartbeat away from the Oval office.

Great blog. Every woman I know, raging in age from young mothers to 85, in politics from to moderate to liberal(granted, I don't hang around with right wing nutjobs) is outraged by Sarah Palin. While posing as a feminist, she'll set women's rights back a hundred years. What incredible hypocrisy. And it's terrifying to think she might become the most powerful leader in the world. God help us all.

Scared sick
I cannot begin to express how scared I am by the prospect of a McCain/ Palin (actually Palin/McCain) administration. The setbacks for women's rights, civil rights, alternative energy research (Her husband works for BP, which also paid for her inauguration- can we say CONFLICT OF INTEREST), and on and on. I am a 60 year old woman from a family where women have been strong, professional, and independent- minded for generstions, an d I am sure that all my female ancestors (and their peers) would be horrified by the potential of losing all they fought and suffered to achieve. The issues are not being addressed, and the Dems have got to get back "on message", instead of reacting to the Republican charges & lies. This is such a critical time for our country and the world. We cannot afford- probably not survive!!- a McCain/Palin administration. GET GOING on defeating them !!!

After watching Sarah Palin's VP acceptance speech, I was so disappointed. She was hailed by Republicans as a "bulldog" but I thought she was just plain mean. Her speech consisted of attack after attack of the Democratic party and of Obama. As a Mother, I was appalled that this venom came out of her mouth in front of her children. Why couldn't she just focus on her accomplishement and what she would like to do in the White House instead of working on her best one liner? Because if she really revealed what her beliefs are to the general public, most women could never vote for such small mindedness. Every woman should have the right to her choice - and that is what I want for my Daughter and for every woman, period. And banning books? Really? Does that still happen? Goodness me. And I have nothing against McCain - it's his policies that I cannot agree with....but one cannot escape his age and his medical history...so are we as a country really prepared for Palin as President??????? Oh me oh my....please say "no" and vote OBAMA!

I am equally distressed by Palin, and cannot understand why the facts mentioned in this blog and on ALL the news stations are not enough to sink her. Why, in fact, McCain/Palin are seeing such a bump in the polls!! I know they are just polls, but it shows that SOME people are really impressed by her show. She hasn't even given a full interview yet. I think Biden should debate her ASAP.

There are always those who will attack her personally- this is politics. We all saw her speech at the RNC, and she personally and sarcastically attacked Obama over and over. I found that completely childish. She also lied, about her own credentials and those of her opponents. I am more upset about the lies.

Can anyone give me some reassurance that our country will not shoot itself (and its wolves!) in the foot?

I feel greatly insulted by McCain's choice in Palin. My mother, grand mother and great mother are deeply rooted in America, her history and the core beliefs of being American. They have all adopted somewhat religious beliefs and have never imposed these beliefs on their children. The led by example and gave us the "choice" to live the kind of life that makes us feel good about being women. They allowed us to read what we chose to read, believe in what we chose to believe in and learn where and how we chose to, understanding that all repercussions we would ultimately have to live with. This woman, Sarah Palin, is a bully who injects her agenda into people's lives because she can. She has a platform to do so. She's not smarter than us, she's not a humanitarian in any way... I want my candidates to be extraordinary people and this woman is not. She's a scary person and I won't stand by and watch these right wing hypocrites push their way into running my country. Bush can withdraw 10,000 troups- it's the right thing to do. Timing is everything and I'll tell you what, Obama and Biden better get of their asses and fight back!!!! Or we're going to lose to these people.

I am just abhored by the selection of Palin and the audacity of the Republican party to assume those of us who voted for Hillary would vote simply on the premise of gender over policy. Not only is Palin ill-equipped to lead our nation in the international setting, but her domestic agendas would undermine the very fabric of our constitutional guarantees and undermine the work our mothers and grandmothers have done that actually allowed her to be picked as a VP to begin with. I find it frightening that they would elect someone who not only believes in denying women the right to choose, but fundamentally belives that book banning is acceptable and that the line between the separation of Church and State is an acceptable one to cross. I hope that we women who value freedom, equal rights, respect, education, and diversity will stand against Palin. I am committed to getting Obama elected and guaranteeing the rights of women for the next generation as my mother did for me.

I don't believe that Sarah Palin has the brains to be in the office of V.P. of the U.S. She is not even a fit mother. She opposes sex education in the schools and obviously does so at home-witness her unwed pregnant teenager. She is dragging around a 4 month old baby with special needs and she lies about her record on earmarks. She may be a good speaker, but she doesn't say anything worth hearing. I think McCain/Palin in office is an even worse prospect than Bush/Cheney and I never thought I would say that.

Unknown said...

I woke up this morning and realized I was even more worried about Sarah Palin than I was the day before. Not only would she become president if McCain dies in office, she will be well positioned to run for president in four years. Even if McCain doesn't want to step aside she would probably challenge him, as she did the former mayor of Wasilla who helped her get started in town politics. She is against everything this country needs to recover from the Bush years, take on the enormous challenges we face, and start to prosper again. I oppose her for all the reasons listed on the Women Against Sarah Palin website and then some. For starts, there's her current membership in a church that encourages anti-semitism by hosting David Brickner, leader of Jews for Jesus who 'described terrorist attacks on Israelis as God's "judgment of unbelief" of Jews who haven't embraced Christianity'. Until 2002 she was a member for many years of a Pentecostal church whose minister preached that critics of President Bush will go to hell along with folks who voted for John Kerry. And people were concerned about Obama's connection to Reverend Wright! Then there's her mockery of community organizers. Unlike Guiliani, she could excuse herself by admitting her complete ignorance and lack of experience with urban issues. Not only has she no experience with foreign policy (I don't think she's ever been out of the US), she has no experience with the urban/suburban environment that the vast majority of Americans live in. She made abortion a hot-button issue in her mayoral race, and once she was elected she tried to ban books. When are Americans going to wake up and see that the current Republican party is the party of 'big government' of the most intrusive and authoritarian kind, attempting to control people's sex lives, thoughts and beliefs, and access to information. Shades of '1984' and 'The Handmaid's Tale'.

Where do you get your information that Feminists for Life, who tout Sarah Palin as a member, favor birth control? I find no mention of it anywhere on their website or in any of their literature. They don't recognize that contraception is the best way to avoid an unwanted pregnancy. They view most modern methods of birth control as abortifacients.
And they fail to acknowledge that most abortions are the fate of married adult mothers who face an unintended pregnancy which they fear would wreak havoc on the wellbeing of the young children already in their family.

What I wish everyone would understand about this election is that it is a choice between a government for the people by the people vs a government by the few for the few. Republicans lead from without; Democrats from within. The longer we are led from without, the more freedoms we will do without.

I'm really scared. If elected Palin could all too easily become President and should be evaluated on those terms. Like Bush, her views are narrow and extreme. She has demonstrated that what she wants is to tell the people what to do, not the other way around. I doubt those silly "separation of power" laws would stop her anymore than they did Bush. Under her regime we can wave goodbye to choice and many other freedoms as the Supreme Court turns over. We can forget about separation of church and state, too. Creationism in the schools is fine with her; and if we're not in enough of a Holy war yet, stand back.

In my view McCain's previously rational, service-oriented reputation crashed and burned when he chose Palin. His choice of an unknown woman to shock and awe the electorate instead of a competent running mate speaks volumes. It has certainly worked to dominate the media and distract from the issues Republicans don't want to discuss. Are we talking about the economy yet? How about that little health care problem?

McCain's choice of Palin is despicable and shows he will do anything to get elected. No longer about service, he's become self-serving.

Obamma's history and voting record proves that he is the real deal. He has shown us in every way, it's not about him. It's about us, including those who disagree with him. He will fight for every American's freedom to decide for him/herself without fear of being condemned or fired. Sounds like the constitution to me.

Biden is a sound choice for VP. No pandering there. They are both committed to bringing the voice of the people to Washington.

Perhaps this time the Republican campaign of hate and fear will backfire. Scared of Palin? Vote Obamma.

Hillary would hate to have broken the glass ceiling just so Palin could slip through the cracks.

While it is great to see everyone's comments and we share mostly the same thoughts and feelings, we must get pro-active and creative and find actual ways to get people to the polls to vote! This is the only way we can really make a difference. Let's save the dialogue for other situations and let's help one another figure out how we can do something that is going to swing this election in the direction we keep jabbering about.

I want to share with you some ideas I have. My elderly parents have care givers and live in an assisted living facility where there are many people from varous countries who have gotten their citizenships in the past few years and who are confused and feel they can not possibly make a difference. I speak to them a lot about what is going on and they respect the conversations we have. With this type of interaction, they seem to gain the confidence that they can make a difference and I encourage them to register and when the election gets closer, I will do everything I can to get them to the polls.

My housekeeper (who was my parent's, too for nearly 20 years) has also become a citizen - along with her daughter recently. We talk a lot about what's going on and they are fascinated to have someone like myself discuss issues with them.

We can all do the same thing... think about the people who may not go to the polls and figure out how to make them realize how important it is for them to vote!

While these types of conversations on blogs such as this one are fascinating where we all vent our beliefs and feelings, let's turn it around and share ideas about how we will actually not allow John McCain & Sarah Palin to win this election.

There is a woman on here (i can't hear you, i'm trying to enjoy myself) who is so disillusioned even as a Democrat with all the mud slinging, that she is actually going to write in for Hilary. These are the people we need to embrace and bring them back to a less emotional reaction.

Ladies... we can do this! Stop the bikering and the name calling and turn this around and get positive and figure out how each and every one of us can make a difference by getting people inspired to vote and to vote for Obama.

We can do it!!!

Thank you,
Susan D. (Sherman Oaks, CA)

WRONG WOMAN! WRONG MESSAGE! I will not attack Palin personally; however, I will attack her policies and policy enforcement tactics, most of which have already been touched in this blog. We have just been through eight damaging and hurtful years with a bullying president. I cannot bear, nor the country cannot withstand, another four years of the same. It is frightening to even think of this possibility.

Palin is not for equality for all women - she is for equality for only those women who share her extreme right-wing, fanatical philosophies. You should read the list of books she attempted to have banned from her local library. The librarian resigned, rather than risk getting fired. The books include The Color Purple by Alice Walker, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou, One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest by Ken Kesey, The Handmaids Tale by Margaret Atwood, and 86 other book titles that many of us recognize.

Freedom of speech, and recognition thereof, is a fundamental aspect within a democracy. I love my country and treasure the democratic principles upon which it was founded. Please, please consider this when you fill out your "mail in ballot" or walk into the voting booth on November 4. McCain/Palin? No Way!!

Sarah Palin needs to demonstrate her ability to handle complex, multidimensional issues facing our nation and the world. She can not simply continue to recite from the same underwhelming, memorized speech written for her to deliver at the Republican convention.

What, if anything does she know about foreign policy? The economy? Social Security? Fannie Mae/ Freddie Mac and the housing crisis? Educational policy? Immigration? The Constitution? The judiciary? And how do you suppose she will be received by Congress or by the rest of the world? What would she do if McCain were hospitalized again (the odds are it will happen more than once)and she had to make a world altering decision affecting our national security? I shudder to think of it. (I hope McCain never goes hunting with Palin--the last time a Vice President went hunting with colleagues...)

My suspicion is that the unspoken truth is that Sarah Palin and John McCain would be relieved and a great deal happier if they could return to their normal routines in Alaska and the Senate for the next four years rather than win the 2008election. In their hearts, they know better than anyone that neither is ready or prepared for the complexities or demands of the offices they seek. Neither even has the experience that George W. Bush had, and look what happened there. They have made their point by running an historic ticket.

Now, for the sake of themselves, their families, this country and the world, they should face the truth, do God's will and ask the Republican party to write-in qualified candidate(s) of their choice.

I have worked too long and too hard for women's rights over the last 30 years to let a "Feminist for Life" (who doesn't know the definition of a feminist) walk into this job. We must all double our efforts with phone-banking, walking precincts, whatever amount of money people can afford, or just giving time to get the pro-choice, pro-women, pro-environment ticket of Obama and Biden elected.

By the way, pistol-packin' Palin doesn't just dislike Polar Bears she supports aerial wolf-gunning. Let's send her back to Alaska after a brief tour of the country.

It's probably becoming a "viral" network - we must have some power here. Let's use it!

PS to "I can't hear you..." This is not about Sarah Palin's personal decisions. It is about her political stance based on her performance as Governor of Alaska and Mayor of Wasilla. And it is about the fact that she is not qualified in any way to be in a position to become President of this country. To the women of America, I know the purpose of putting Sarah Palin as VP pick was to persuade the undecided Hillary fans, and undecided voters to get Mccain in the white house, but everything she stands for is against everything Hillary would've wanted for this country. Hasn't Bush done enough damage to this country already? Do we really need more negative consequences? Has anyone noticed that neither McCain nor Palin mentioned once BUsh name during their speech. They are just like him if not worse and they used this tactic so as to not be affiliated with him, however they all sit in the same boat. If you were unhappy with all the coruption and damage that bush has caused then think before you vote for McCain/Palin. Palin might as well be called PalinBush only much worse. We need a fresh start to rebuild what has been lost over the last 8 years. Please think strongly. Yes it would be great to see history happen by placing a woman in the white house, but this is not the way, and I believ you will truly regret your decision once you see this woman in action. Her record speaks loud enough and that's only what the country has been fortunate to find out, imagine how much more scandal there might be. If you are on the fence and can't decide who to vote for pick Obama and give this country, your present and future children a chance to actually know what it's like to have your voice heard and represented rather than silenced for the own benefit of bettering McCain/Palins own wants and needs. If you are planning on voting for McCain/Palin, do the country and all the women who have worked so hard over many many years to give us equal rights, and please, JUST DON'T VOTE!

No one should judge Sarah Palin or her daughter about their personal choices re: their pregnancies. That's what "freedom of choice" is all about! But all women should judge her on her inexperience and extreme views. She is NOT prepared to be president should McCain not survive his term. She has literally just applied for a passport! Granted, she has a compelling, telegenic image--she is almost like an American myth come to life. An Annie-get-your-gun, "every woman" who appeared out of nowhere, with a beautiful family and a likeable, regular "voice." She can seemingly do it all! BUT, her experience is limited to a very small stage. Anti-American countries will be over-the-moon if McCain/Palin are elected. And as harsh as it sounds, it gives them incentive to assasinate McCain. If the mighty USA is led by the recent mayor of a small town in Alaska, we are "toast."

Don't just complain, don't just blog...Sisters, it's time for us to rise to the occasion and work harder than we ever have. We need to put the democrats back in the White House. We need to contribute our money, make those phone calls and do whatever else is necessary to get out the vote and get Obama elected. It's up to us...our children's futures depend on it.

This old lady from Oklahoma realizes that Palin is just a Republican diversion to take everyone's eye off the Republican platform which has proven to be a complete failure. Our economy is in a free fall but maybe, just maybe Palin will be able to change the subject long enough for the Republicans to convince people again to climb on their free lunch bandwagon.

I pray their pandering doesn't work this time because my country deserves another chance.

Dear ER and everyone out there,

If we can get hundreds of intelligent comments on this blog, we might be able to get some national press attention. Right now it's all about the "mom" thing and that's not the issue at all. Please urge your friends to contribute their comments. Then we'll see if there are enough of us out there to do a public event.

Comments & suggestions, everyone?

Sarah Palin is briefed by Bushs team, only met John Mcsame once the day before he asked her to be VP candidate, she doesn't even see that they are using her to get the presidency, SHE DOES NOT SPEAK FOR ME!!! She is more to the right than Mcsame. we have to keep these people out of the white house, if you are rich, war driven, and willing to play by Karl Rove tactics, you fit in, she is against womens rights, SHE IS A FAKE!! OPEN YOUR EYES, thats why they don't want her taken questions. The only time she held her child is when she was on stage at the convention, after that her daughter always held the baby. Ask yourselves if she didn't have a down syndrome baby would she still advocate form down syndrome people, or is it just a political tactic

I am insulted as an educated woman by the McCain party by putting a woman with a pretty face and no experience in true leadership. Sarah Palin left her community with an 18 million dollar debt, of which there was no debt before she became mayor. I think that McCain, being so old and already having four, I said, four bouts of cancer, yes, cancer, will probably die in the first year or so then leave us with Palin as president. Then this country will really go down the poop hole. No sexual education programs leads to high rates of teen pregnancy. Maybe if Briston, Sarah Palins daughter had both abstinence and condom/safe sex education, then maybe she wouldn't be having a baby at 17. Palin would not be under such harsh scrutiny if she were more open and honest with the public. Everything she says is one, an attack on Obama, and two, doesn't make any sense.

I recieved an email inviting me to comment on Sarah Palin and why, as a woman I oppose her.

Quite frankly, I was shocked that you are so illiterate that you were unable or unwilling to check your facts before sending the email. Sarah Palin is NOT opposed to birth control, or sex education. She did oppose GRAPHIC sex education, and as a mother I am completely in agreement with that. Many of the other "facts" you presented are simply lies that have already been proven as such. With regard to free speech.. the librarian and banned book issue is debunked in this link. Besides, MR. Obama already cornered the market on subduing the press when he had an ABC producer arrested in Denver for filming on a public sidewalk in front of the DEM Hotel... apparantly Obama had something to hide when it came to lobbyists!

As for wolves and polar bears, you almost had me there... until I realized that the laws in Alaska have been what they are since the 1970's... long before Palin, and they will continue to be what they are until the people of Alaska choose to change them. It's not the Governor stupid.

So, as for Sarah not representing me... SORRY folks. She does! Sarah Palin is me.. my sister, my mother, my neighbor, my friends, my classmates... she's ever woman. I'm prolife, not pro abortion. (Call it what it is!) I'm very pro choice... It's a woman's choice to get pregnant or ..NOT. Once pregnant I believe that every baby has the right to life.

As far as being upset with the Republican choice for VP, :NEWS FLASH!" It's not UP TO YOU!! Apparently, you BLEW IT when you nominated an unelectable socialist, marxist and anarchist prone candidate. TOO BAD, SO SAD...

GO SARAH !!!!! YEAH SARAH!!!!

PUMA member, voting for MCCAIN/PALIN!

ANY old female candidate?? Honey, you need to HURRY ON OVER to hillaryclintonforum.net!
Sarah is not just any old female candidate. She's just like us.. Smart, hardworking, great mom, great wife, educated but not TOO elite (like Obama and his shrew wife)... loves the outdoors.. She is JUST EXACTLY what the Republican ticket needed and I'm PUMPED!

As far as changing her mind on abortion... I don't think she ever will, and I don't blame her. Intelligent women that can reason that life begins at conception just can't get their minds around killing a baby. We're all for CHOICE.. as I said in a previous post... CHOOSE TO NOT BECOME PREGNANT ALL YOU WANT!! But once you do, then your baby has a RIGHT to life. If you don't agree with that, then something is missing in your head honey. I sure feel sorry for any children that somehow slip through and end up with YOU for a mom!

"I don't believe that Sarah Palin has the brains to be in the office of V.P. of the U.S. She is not even a fit mother. She opposes sex education in the schools and obviously does so at home-witness her unwed pregnant teenager"

EXCUUUUSEE ME! But you sure make an awfully lot of assumptions, assertions and just plain inane judgements here. Sarah Palin not smart? WHY... because she doesn't agree with YOU or because she doesn't hold a Harvard degree? She is extremely intelligent and is more like the AVERAGE AMERICAN WOMAN as far as her level of education. Education does NOT equal IQ. Get that part straight!

NOT A FIT MOTHER???? Well, she didn't abort her baby like many on this page would have without a second's hesitation! THAT, my dear, is an unfit mother. As far as sex education... AGAIN.. YOU are sorely mistaken. Here is the EXACT QUESTION and answer posed to Sarah Palin by EagleforumAlaska blog spot:
QL Will you support funding for abstinence-until-marriage education instead of for explicit sex-education programs, school-based clinics, and the distribution of contraceptives in schools?

SP: Yes, the explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support.
*********************************
She is CLEARLY stating that it is EXPLICIT sex-ed programs that she will not support, and I am 1000% in favor of that. I don't know if you are a parent or not, but I do not want state run schools distributing material that may or may not be appropriate for my child. Every child has a different maturity level and I think that sex education in general is appropriate at a certain age, but I don't think EXPLICIT sex education in school is ever appropriate. If you don't know what they mean by explicit, then do a little research. It's not something most parents would willingly consent to.

And you are certainly high and mighty to decide that Bristol Palin became pregnant because she wasn't taught sex education at home. What a retarded thing to say! You are SO out of touch with reality that it's hard to know how to even address a remark like that.

Bottom line..... This forum is for a bunch of WHINERS who see The Messiah Baraka baby GOIN DOWN and just can not STAND IT!!! Sort of like Goliah slayed by little David.. here is little sarah Palin, an underserving (in your mind) from an far off place, just decimating the Obama/Biden campaign.

Small minded women like most on this blog can not bring Sarah Palin down!

I am completely offended that the McCain camp believes that American women are so stupid that they will vote based solely on gender apparently without giving a thought to policy, qualifications, etc.

It is the very definition of pandering and arrogance...but then McCain is a 7 decade member of the old boys club so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

We know very little of substance about Ms Palin. Cloaking her in the glow of motherhood, making her "seem like me," does not qualify her to be VP of this nation. The public needs unscripted access to this candidate, just as it does to every other candidate. Hiding behind motherhood and screaming "sexist attack" is a ruse. It's clear that the Republican party has no intention of letting us get beyond the carefully crafted persona to the real person, her knowledge and ideas, her ability to deal with the multitude of serious issues that face both this country and the world. That fact alone, more than the hyperbole that stands in for political discourse, should make us all clamor for access to this candidate. At the moment, Ms Palin looks like a cheerleader for Mr. McCain and that is what she will remain unless we are able to ask her tough questions and hear her answers. Unfair? No, not at all. This is not a beauty contest, although some out there seem to think so. Leadership of this country is no ordinary job. We don't need a cheerleader, we need serious, deep leaders willing to go with open minds and civil, respectful demeanor before the people of this country. So far, that seems like a remote possibility at best.

Sarah Palin seems determined to drag us back into the Dark Ages. No one has the right to tell you what you can and can't do with your body. She made her life choices, let other women make theirs with the same freedom. And what kind of world will we have with leaders who deny the impact of global warming, who take animals off endangered species lists? A world where literature is censored, where religion dictates and basic education takes a backseat? Ironically Sarah Palin, for all her talk of patriotism, is a deeply anti-American choice. I am horrified that the Republicans believe that as long as they have a woman dishing out this garbage we'll accept it. We cannot let this happen.

We need to steer this campaign towards these issues: the economy, war, taxes and reproductive rights. While education and stem cell research are important, they are not as important as those main four topics. Keep Obama and Biden on track with those issues and McCain/Palin will show their true colors.

This is why I'm terrified of Sarah Palin holding power:
Sarah Palin's political positions: Against freedom of speech, sex education, birth control, the pro-choice platform, environmental protection, alternative energy development, gun control, the separation of church and state, and FOR plutocracy (government by and for the rich) are consistent with the mind set of the fringe religious right: those people who are absolutely certain that the bible, (THEIR interpretation of the bible) provides answers to all questions re: human values. The mind of an extreme fundamentalist, of ANY religion, is shut like a steel trap, making them anti- science and essentially anti-inquiry. Ms Palin, in her efforts to ban hundreds of books (many of them great literature)from her town's library, shows she holds an attitude that ignorance is desirable and moral.

"Absolute faith in one's own virtue is not a commitment to virtuous behavior but a commitment to one's own will. It's a license to commit atrocities. That's a lesson that can't be repeated enough"
Quote from movie reviewer Mick La Salle reviewing a film about Adolph Hitler.

I think everyone who supports Palin should have to contribute to a fund for the support, care, and education of the tens of thousands unwanted, neglected, and abused children in our country. ARE THEY WILLING TO PUT THEIR MONEY WHERE THEIR MOUTH IS? (Come to think about it, the Catholic Church should have to contribute too. Oh, but wait, they're broke because some of them have been doing the abusing.) The only choice IS choice. And I do NOT choose Palin for these reasons.

You know, in 1964 I use to wear my hair like that. They called it a coiffure-- which meant it was a do-- a real hairdo.

This gal of a governor-- uses enough hair spray to melt all of the glaciers in Alaska-- okay-- that's below the belt stuff-- so now lets ponder her two legged stance on a woman's right to choose-- she's against your choices for freedom of religion, she hates librarians and books that explore human sexuality and she is trying ban them maybe even burn them.

If you got knocked up or someone's kid got pregnant in a date rape-- she would be the first to congratulate you and knit you a pair of mother of pearl booties.

She believes in abstinence yet her own daughter broke a Palin house rule-- naughty thing!

What really hurts-- deep down inside the gut of every progressive woman, every feminist who marched without a bra and defended the rights of women of all colors and all kinds, even some us stereotypical "Breck Shampoo" girls is that Sarah is like a song from the 60's--a real do wapper whose once yellow teeth were a sign of the times-- but-- the times they are changin-- and ladies-- we're going backwards not forwards, were winding down, becoming a dying breed, even endangered if she gets elected as our VP.

No! I don't want to wear a pill box hat and tell my God daughter that she can't have sex until she's married.
No! I don't want a woman, Sarah Palin, to reach the second highest powerful position in United States government and feel like my country has lost it.
No! I don't want anymore text messages from right wing conspirator's who think that they can Sprint ahead through my phone.
Yes! I want change and the opportunity to look a Republican in the eye and say these words, "Your party is over and it's time for you to change."
Yes! I think Sarah Palin makes a great soccer mom, bakes great cookies, gives good vibes inside her beltway-- but this
monster of a woman who shoots wolves from airplanes,
plays Monopoly with the good old boys-- pushes petroleum rebates through the pipeline, across caribou lines, believes in energy conservation and cares more about her acryllic nails than she does the environment-- this woman, who the hell is she anyway? No body knows-- that's for sure!

If you think Washington insiders have all the scoop as to why McCain picked her-- guess again-- and if you think emails like yours and mine are going to stop what has become an imoveable feast-- an immeasurable opportunity against all odds-- you had better wake-up little Susie-- because this 60's gal, is going to stay up all night with hair in curlers, sharpening the points on those lethal and toxic plastic nails knowing that
America is ready-- even getting hot at the thought of the "Girl In Red," becoming our next vice president or maybe even president.

Canada anyone? They say that British Columbia has more wolves than Alaska.

Stand UP for your right to choose Obama/Biden. Treat every young person you see to a free cup of coffee and give them a few extra bucks to treat the young woman standing behind them by letting her know that she just lost all of her rights as woman and she would be better off living in Ethiopia.

And one last thing, don't try to put your hair up in one of those do's-- you just might break your nails and that would be a real tragedy.

This is about looking at the McCain-Palin ticket not just as an historic Republican moment where a woman has been chosen as VP; the Democrats did this with Mondale-Ferraro back in the 1980's. This is more about the shallowness of the Republicans thinking that having a woman on the ticket will automatically grant them the women vote -- it is a condescending opinion on the Republicans part that women will automatically vote for a woman regardless of the views of that woman. That type of thinking is sexist.

Speak the Truth to Power said...

From the very moment that Sarah Palin's name was added to the Republican ticket for this year's Presidential election, I felt like my head was going to explode. Why? Because of the calculated cynicism of such a ridiculous ploy. How unbelievably stupid do these people really think we are? How much do they truly, deeply disrespect women? Grab a pretty package and throw it up next to the old "maverick." No one will notice that he has no answers for the nation's ills. Everyone will jump on the "what a hot chick" or the "she's just like us" bandwagon. By the time we recover from our Palin binge, the votes will have been counted and our country will continue its slow slide to irrelevance...under McCain. Notice I said McCain, not McCain/Palin. Because, when all is said and done, Palin will be tucked neatly back into the box she came in and shoved into the back room like so much seasonal window dressing. McCain didn't want a running mate. He wanted a distraction, someone whose ability to generate a buzz would keep people from asking whether he has any plans for America. McCain selected a woman as a running mate to enhance his "maverickness," the guy who will shake up the Washington status quo. This might have worked if his record, his words or his actions actually demonstrated that he believes women to be his equal and worthy of the highest office in the land. Fortunately, or unfortunately, one need not look very far to find evidence to the contrary. Whether it is his deprecating remarks about Hillary Clinton, his disgusting suggestion that his own wife should enter a topless beauty pageant or his failure to support equal pay legislation, McCain's misogynistic attitude is, and always has been, front and center. It saddens me that, for whatever reason (ego, blackmail, money,?), Sarah Palin would demean herself, her family and the strong women who have opened political doors for her by accepting McCain's invitation. It speaks volumes about her lack of education and judgment that she would allow herself to be used so blatantly. She might be able to field dress a moose but she is clueless about her own public dressing down at the hands of the Republican king-making machine. Hopefully, the electorate "gets it" before November 4th, otherwise someone will need to scrape my brains off the wall.

Palin shares Bush mind-set

Palin recently said in her address to the ministry students at her former church that the war in Iraq is "God's Task."

Palin urged the religious students to pray for the troops in Iraq saying, "That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God's plan" and that "Our national leaders are sending soldiers out on a task that is from God."

These views are consistent with George Bush's position, as he more than once implied that he was following God's will in foreign affairs, including the Iraq War.

Such thinking resulted in one of the biggest quagmires in U.S. history.

The war in Iraq destroyed America's image in the world as a peacemaker, resulted in over 4,000 deaths of U.S. troops, seriously wounded more than 20,000 soldiers, and caused thousands of deaths of Iraqis either directly or indirectly (a rarely mentioned fact either because Iraqis are considered our enemy or not as important for our goals, or because of the fear of being blamed for being unpatriotic by mentioning it!).

The Iraq War also resulted in massive budget deficits that diverted resources that could help the poor and the unemployed.

The money that has been spent on the war could have been used to create jobs, reduce unemployment, and improve the health care and education of our citizens.

There is no question that the uncertainty caused by the Iraq war was one of the factors behind the rise in oil prices by leading to speculation in oil markets.

It is outrageous for Sarah Palin to suggest that the Iraq War is God's plan or a task from God! The truth is that this was an unwarranted war based on lies and half-truths promoted by the Bush administration!

It was a war that had nothing to do with defeating terrorism or bringing freedom or democracy, but very much to do with oil and the neocon ideology of intimidating the world by sheer military power.

Invoking reference to God will never refute the responsibility of the Bush's government in creating this unnecessary war and its terrible consequences.

Sadly these views, among others, are why, as a woman, I don't feel any joy from the nomination of Sarah Palin as the vice presidential candidate of the Republican Party.

Here are my thoughts on Palin:

I see McCain's Palin choice as pandering to women. I do not admire any politician, woman or not who is a calculating liar. We do not need more of that in Washington. Further, Palin's views, if it were to come to any fruition, would throw women back to the stone age being dragged by their hair. It would fit right in with her view on Creationism and humans walking the earth with the dinosaur. Palin is scary with her far reaching, right wing views.

Further I do not admire this hockey mom, do it all, superwoman persona that's being projected onto the American people. I do not see Palin as a "rock star" - give me a break. I can't relate to it. It must be nice to have children simply to either allow your older children to raise them and/or have a nanny to rear them. I can't relate because I'm an average American, middle class mom with two children and no nanny in sight. My son has special needs and my family makes financial sacrifices so I can be close at hand to raise him. What's happening to baby Trig, with Down's Syndrome who needs his "mother" nearby? Or, maybe the reality is the mother is already close by and her name is Bristol.

I've read in the LA Progressive (laprogressive.com) Friday, September 5th "Alaskans Speak in a Frightened Whisper", that Palin was overheard in a local Alaskan diner referring to Barak Obama as a "Sambo" and Hillary Clinton as a "bitch". There is no room left in American society to allow for this type of mentality to prevail in Washington.

Why is it taboo to look into her life regarding "her" baby. Palin has ambition to partner with the highest office in the nation and we the people have a right to know everything about her. Please don't tell me it's sexist because it isn't.

There are many people who simply do not believe Trig is Palin's baby. The story with her water breaking, and the ability to travel for hours before delivering her alledged 5th child, doesn't pass the smell test. The whole story sounds like trash. I've got my hip boots on.

Regardless, McCain's VP choice has politician written all over it. Palin is nothing more than a pawn to help advanced McCain's political interests. After Obama stunning Democratic convention, McCain's response was "oh, crap". Well, McCain had to run around and snatch up Palin to shake things up. And, God helps us if McCain were to actually win, croak in office and Palin take over the Presidency. The idea is frightening to say the least.

I do not care to hear more from Palin. I've seen and heard enough.

Until Sarah Palin goes up against the media, with no notes or teleprompters, she cannot convince me she is ready to go up against world leaders such as Putin or Kim Jong Il. In a recent interview she didn't know what the Bush doctrine was. When asked if she agreed with the Bush doctrine, she squirmed in her seat and asked, "In what way?" The even remote prospect of her being our president sends chills down my spine. She has been proven to lie, and manufacture accomplishments. Do we really want more of this? Bush lied to us and has lost our country the respect of the rest of the world. Every time I have seen her cheered in front of a large crowd, her eyes grow big and she says "Wow". She is clearly in awe of the situation and herself. This is not someone experienced with handling admiration of this kind and being able to put it in perspective. It troubles me that if she believes the Iraq war is part of gods plan, then she surely must believe she is part of the same plan. She is a dangerous woman, with a reputation of having her way or the highway.

I am thrilled that Sarah Palin is on the ticket. You all seem to love the word "terrified". You are terrified that she will become VP or (shudder) President?

Terrified? Really?

I am terrified that Muslim suicide bombers and terrorists will slaughter more Americans. That seems a fitting use of the word "terrified".

If I was being chased by a man with a knife, I would be terrified.

But really, terrified of a conservative woman on the Republican ticket??

Wow - sounds like prebuscent melodrama to me. Grow up.

Obama is not rife with qualifications. And did I mention his middle name is Hussein and his background is Islam. Wow! Now if I was the sort of woman to be terrified by someone's name appearing on a ballot, that might terrify me.

President Barack Hussein Obama? Really? No. Maybe Sheik Barack Hussein Obama...

But what really pleases me the most and I'm sure puts Hillary's tummy controlling girdle in a snit is that she is not on the Presidential ticket in any capacity and likely never will be.

Yippee!! Go Sarah!!

your bringing up an accusation against Clinton concerning state troopers is a logical fallacy known as "Tu Quoque", explained by www.fallacyfiles.org/ as "a very common fallacy in which one attempts to defend oneself or another from criticism by turning the critique back against the accuser. This is a classic Red Herring since whether the accuser is guilty of the same, or a similar, wrong is irrelevant to the truth of the original charge." In other words, two wrongs don't make a right. Bill Clinton isn't running for anything; Palin is.

As for the allegation that Barack Obama is a Muslim because he has an Arabic middle name, that too is fallacious. My first name is Irene, which is Greek but I'm not Greek. My husband's name is French, but he has no French ancestry in his family. Barack Obama has been a member of a Christian church for many years. I accept that to mean he's a Christian. In any case, being a Muslim is not synonymous with being a terrorist, any more than being a Christian is synonymous with wanting to blow up the Oklahoma City Federal building.

I live about 10 miles from the Canadian border. When George Bush was elected to a second term I seriously considered renouncing my US citizenship and moving to Canada. This is why I totally identify with Michelle Obama's comment about finally feeling proud of her country. I can't remember the last time I felt "proud to be an American." Bush and his cronies have so screwed up our image with the rest of the world, that it will take a VERY long time to regain some of the good will we've so tragically lost.

As a child of the '50s, I feel that I know Palin, because she's a throwback to EVERYTHING that was negative about that era in just about every way.

I detest judging people by their looks, but a president with a pony tail just makes me gag. How can anyone take this woman seriously? If she wants world leaders to take her seriously, she's got a long row to hoe!

Palin's interview with Charles Gibson shows her total ignorance on most of the issues he touched upon. To suggest that because she can see Russia from parts of Alaska, and that she's visited Canada and Mexico counts as experience in foreign policy, is ludicrous.

How can any "thinking" person not see how ignorant she is about world affairs? First, she said we might have to go war with to Russia, then she said we'd have to use diplomacy to solve problems instead of going to war.

I go to bed each night thanking God I'm not a Republican. What are those people thinking of?

I think that the international community already does not like Palin. Le Monde (oui, je suis une libérale qui parle français!) has focused on the scandal, the Economist thinks that she is incompetent http://www.economist.com/world/unitedstates/displaystory.cfm?story_id=12066224

The Spectator loathes her, calling her "a backwoods polar-bear-strangling Britney Spears manqué".

And that was the nicest thing said about her in the article. http://www.spectator.co.uk/the-magazine/features/2057361/what-possessed-mccain-to-take-a-punt-on-palin.thtml

In general, world opinion is against her which does not help matters for a VP candidate.

thinkingwoman: I wonder where the hell you get that name because it does not describe you. Here is Barack Obama's C-Span information. http://c-span.www3.capwiz.com/election/candidate/id/146055

Please leave the election to us Obama and Biden voters who are more well informed than Palin loving idiots.

I think, and of course I think because I am a Democrat, and have observed that Republicans are not very educated. They don't do much in the way of research before they form an opinion. I must admit, however, I am a bit of a swot who thinks (there's that darn word again) that staying up to watch the the Hadron Super Collider come on online during a live BBC broadcast is the epitome of the week.

Pardon me, dear readers. I digress. To summarize: Palin is a dumb bitch who, in matters of foreign policy, couldn't find the washroom without a hard push in the correct direction. She ought to go back to her Ketchikan like the good wifey Christian woman she is (remember this line from the Bible :"As in all the congregations of the saints, women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.") and leave politics to those of us who are a hockey floor length more intelligent.

This site is exactly why women are still second class citizens - WE WON'T SUPPORT EACH OTHER. Who cares if Palin is pro-life - that's only one issue. If she breaks thru the glass ceiling 25 women will be following her, then 50 etc...who WILL be pro-choice. It's a numbers game. The men have been playing it very well for the last 3,000 years!!!

I have created a blog: Thanks, But No Thanks, Sarah Palin. I search the web for all the reasons why, we the people, shouldn't stand behind the McCain/Palin ticket. Unless of course, you don't give a darn about your rights under the constitution as we know it today.

Barbara said...

Eljay, I'm sorry to disappoint you but Palin on the McCain ticket is nothing more than a political pawn. And, this is the scary part - that people don't see the reality and are blinded by "hope". This is not the kind of hope women need right now. McCain is achieving his end by stirring up and dividing women by throwing Palin onto the ticket.

Further, if McCain was in office with a different VP and he croaked in which case the VP that steps in to be the President, would have to chose a new VP (follow closely here), congress would than have to approve the new VP choice. I can tell you as sure as I'm sitting here, if Palin would be the choice, she would not be approved. Palin is not even close to qualifying as VP and certainly not as President. Be very careful... Palin isn't ready to run this country. McCain is more of Bush. If McCain croaks in office with Palin as VP, we are completely done for. As it is the empire is crumbling.

Please see my blog for more information on Palin and to further explain why women need to stand behind Barack Obama if you hope to crash through the glass ceiling.

Dear eljay,

I wish your argument was true. I have two words to counter it: Supreme Court. The kind of Supreme Court appointments McCain will make could set this country back for decades to come. Remember, he has stated he prefers people in the Roberts/Scalia/Thomas mold. This is not a symbolic vote - these people will be making real decisions that impact us all. And they could get as many as three nominations in their first term of office.

Especially if you are part of the 80% who feel the country is headed in the wrong direction, don't throw your vote away for symbolic hope. That's just what the Republican playbook (Karl Rove & co.) are hoping you will do. Please don't let them get away with this.

The Pahlin choice was only to appeal to Republican right wing voters. Religious right supporters are so two-faced. They tout creationism as a viable "scientific theory" worthy of teaching in our schools...yet they don't support the environment that "creationism" gave them.

I was taught creationism in a podunk, right wing, religious zealot high school. It ruined my education...and delayed my career.

Creationism teaches that the fossil record is a lie. Fossils exist only because the Devil planted them there for Man to find and trick him.

Sarah Pahlin appeal to women? Only if you're stuck in the 1950's world of "Mad Men". Just keep in mind who will be president when McCain keels over. That's right, Sarah Pahlin - a pageant princess full of spunk, yet clueless on foreign policy. Someone who speaks well, yet has little of substance to say.

I probably would have voted McCain if he had not chosen her as VP. Does he really think people are that stupid? Guess it was a brillant move on his part - put a woman on his arm to appeal to some Hillary voters with just enough eye candy to appeal to the gun-toting guys of the NRA.

Her policies are dangerous - from education to energy to the environment to women's rights. I for one am sick of being paid 2/3 of what my male co-worker makes. I'm tired of corporate executives walking away with multi-million severance packages after destroying their companies.

I'm sick of hearing about American servicemen/women being killed in Iraq for a war that should have never been fought.

De-regulation of transportation, communications, etc is now taking it's toll on the middle class. While deregulation lowered prices in the short term, it has been disastrous in the long term - look at the state of aviation/travel.

Let's block this war supporting, moose eating, wolf shooting, anti-women's choice, regulation-loving, anti-environment, hockey Mom from doing anymore damage than has already been done.

I received this from a friend today:

Hypocrisy

* If you're a minority and you're selected for a job over more qualified candidates you're a "token hire."
* If you're a conservative and you're selected for a job over more qualified candidates you're a "game changer."

* Black teen pregnancies? A "crisis" in black America .
* White teen pregnancies? A "blessed event."

* If you grow up in Hawaii you're "exotic."
* Grow up in Alaska eating moose burgers, you're the quintessential "American story."

* Similarly, if you name your kid Barack you're "unpatriotic."
* Name your kid Track, you're "colorful."

* If you're a Democrat and you make a VP pick without fully vetting the individual you're "reckless."
* A Republican who doesn't fully vet is a "maverick."

* If you spend 3 years as a community organizer growing your organization from a staff of 1 to 13 and your budget from $70,000 to $400,000, then become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new African American voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, then spend nearly 8 more years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, becoming chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, then spend nearly 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of nearly 13 million people, sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you are woefully inexperienced.
* If you spend 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, then spend 20 months as the governor of a state with 650,000 people, then you've got the most executive experience of anyone on either ticket, are the Commander in Chief of the Alaska military and are well qualified to lead the nation should you be called upon to do so because your state is the closest state to Russia.

* If you are a Democratic male candidate who is popular with millions of people you are an "arrogant celebrity."
* If you are a popular Republican female candidate you are "energizing the base."

* If you are a younger male candidate who thinks for himself and makes his own decisions you are "presumptuous."
* If you are an older male candidate who makes last minute decisions you refuse to explain, you are a "shoot from the hip" maverick.

* If you are a candidate with a Harvard law degree you are "an elitist-out of touch" with the real America .
* if you are a legacy (dad and granddad were admirals) graduate of Annapolis , with multiple disciplinary infractions you are a hero.

* If you manage a multi-million dollar nationwide campaign, you are an "empty suit."
* If you are a part time mayor of a town of 7000 people, you are an "experienced executive."

* If you go to a south side Chicago church, your beliefs are "extremist."
* If you believe in creationism and don't believe global warming is man made, you are "strongly principled."

* If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a Christian.
* If you have been married to the same woman with whom you've been wed to for 19 years and raising 2 beautiful daughters with, you're "risky."

* If you're a black single mother of 4 who waits for 22 hours after her water breaks to seek medical attention, you're an irresponsible parent, endangering the life of your unborn child.
* But if you're a white married mother who waits 22 hours, you're spunky.

* If you're a 13-year-old Chelsea Clinton, the right-wing press calls you "First dog."
* If you're a 17-year old pregnant unwed daughter of a Republican, the right-wing press calls you "beautiful" and "courageous."

* If you kill an endangered species, you're an excellent hunter.
* If you have an abortion, you're a murderer (forget about if it happened while being raped.)

* If you teach abstinence only in sex education, you get teen parents.
* If you teach responsible age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

* If you're a Republican senator who solicits gay sex in an airport bathroom, you get to return to your job in the Senate and are encouraged to run for re-election.
* If you're a Democratic Senator who is out of public office and have an affair, your political career is over and your wife who has terminal cancer is to blame.

The hypocrisies listed are the result of nasty but very effective Republican strategy.

For those like Deborah who are fed up, how does this sound:

Enough defending! Enough explaining how things should be!

When Republicans attack, just expose their strategy. (Or better yet, expose it in Democratic ads now and be proactive.) When voters can see something as a strategy, the strategy no longer works.

Rachel Maddow pointed it out on her show on MSNBC this week, (sorry, can't find the video) where she talked about the standard Rovian strategy -- attack an opponent’s greatest strength and campaign on your own greatest weakness. Obama's strength is that he is in touch, so they clalim he's out of touch. McCain is the same as Bush, so they claim he is change. And on it goes.

It's like reframing -- calling good things bad and bad things good.

Here's a corrolary: when you can't reframe one of your weaknesses, reverse it and claim it's theirs. McCain is the elitist, he claims it's Obama. The rest of the hypocricies follow. Don't you just shake your head in disbelief when they say Democrats use fear tactics and invoke class warfare? What they are doing in each case is reversing their weakness by claiming it is ours.

These are basic elementary school bully tactics -- shock & awe reframing. Seems Rove's motto is a perverted version of "All I need to know I learned in Kindergarten." Rove studied well.

The Republicans know that when you defend and explain yourself, you lose. And you can't call someone a name that they just called you -- basic playground rules 101. So what do you do?

You do as Obama has just started to do by exposing the lipstick attack as the strategy of diversion. Exposing the remaining Republican strategies is all that's left to do:

"Republican strategy #1 -- attacking a Democratic strength. Where have I seen that before?"

"That sure looks familiar. Strategy #2 -- claiming your greatest weakness as a strength. A rose by any other name..."

"There you go again using strategy #3 -- claiming your weakness is mine."

Exposing their game is far more effective than playing it. Expose their game and return to business -- the issues. Enough is enough!

Sandy said...

Obama's "Enough!" rebuff of the lipstick analogy last week was so strong! That word "Enough!" resonates!

Seems to me, "Change" is what we think; "Enough!" is what we feel!

That word says it all. I say, make "Enough!" Obama's signature phrase for the rest of the campaign!

Can't you hear him? "Enough is enough! Enough attack ads, enough lies, enough distractions, enough failed policies," then he can say what he will do and lead by example. Can't be stronger or more positive than that!

If you think "Enough!" should be the new campaign theme, spread it around. Send emails, put it on all the blogs you can find. There has to be some way for the campaign managers to hear it. Or if anybody knows another way to get the attention of the Obama campaign, let me know.

The fact that our country wants to elect people they "would like to have a beer with" is terror inducing and epitomozed in the class 5 MORONIC nomination of Sarah Palin. I would NOT even want to have a beer with her, as I disagree vehemently with every position she has taken from anti-abortion and abstinence based education, to gun control and total disreguard for endangered species--oh yes and "drill, baby drill".

Christianity, Judaism and Islam are all loving religions. It's the fundamentalist extremists in EACH that point fingers and guns at the others in the name of their god.

Turns out, we have been given a very biased view of Islam. What else is new...and which party would that distortion serve?

Every time someone uses Muslim to defame a person, we affirm the Republican's lie.

Check it out. If you are not Muslim, make some Muslim friends. Mine are just as embarrassed and upset about their fundamentalist counterparts as other religions are about theirs. There are extremists in all three religions, and they all want the same thing -- dominance. How could it be otherwise? They each think the others are wrong.

Obama happens to be a Christian who walks and talks Jesus' message of love better than most, though he could be equally as loving were he of either of the other two religions. Palin is a judgmental fundamentalist with narrow religious views that she hopes to inject into our public schools and federal policies in a way that threatens the very fabric of our nation and the stability of the world, should she gain power.

This post is a perfect example of the sheer ignorance of some Americans who are too lazy to do simple research. I believe that real thinking people prefer to be informed.

It's exactly the type of biased, twisted tripe that non-thinking people have the gullibility to swallow.

Watch for two videos to be posted on YouTube soon: "Grandmothers for Obama" and "Mad As Hell in Oregon". Women voters in Oregon are Mad As Hell that the GOP Gang thinks they can put any "woman" out there and that we will just fall in line.

Women voters in Oregon don't like Palin on so many levels. Economy, education, environment, women's rights, war (she can see Russia from her house), religious Right fanaticism, favors semi-automatic weapons and cop killer bullets available to anyone, lies and more lies about so many things (selling the plane on Ebay when in fact she sold it at private auction for a loss of $600,000 to the State of Alaska); she supported the Bridge to Nowhere before it became such an embarassment to Alaska, she fired the City Administrator of Wasilla and fired the librarian for not removing books Palin didn't like. The librarian was rehired the next day due to public outcry.

Women voters in Oregon don't like Palin! We don't like McCain either. He divorced his first wife after she was in a terribly disfiguring automobile accident and he chased after and married the beauty queen with the big bucks.

Please, please don't vote for McCain/Palin (Pain)!

Send a suggestion to the Obama campaign to start every speech and ad with, "Enough!"

Suggestions for Obama:

You can say everything in one word: "ENOUGH!" It's strong; it's right; it shows you are listening!

"Enough!" is the pulse of the nation -- we are fed up! We don't need to KNOW more, we need to FEEL it.

Try "Enough!" in the next ad, and the next, and the next. The response will be instant as it was to your lipstick rebuttal.

Just say: "Enough!" and expose their strategies, say what you WILL do, and show us your vision of the future.

"Enough!" is the emotionally charged version of "Change!" Be the adult on the playground of bullies. Don't attack; don't engage; just put your foot down by saying "Enough!" again and again. It resonates!

STEP 1: Send a suggestion to the Obama campaign. Send one of the above or write your own:
GO TO: http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/contact/
CLICK BUTTON: "Other thoughts and questions"

STEP 2: Remove the previous email addresses from this note, sign it if you wish, and forward the heck out of this message via email. It could tip the scales!

Sarah Palin's use of the abortion issue for political game is worse than cynical. She is very truly motivated by the hope of getting into office and getting rid of a woman choice, even in case of rape and incest. I am donating money to Obama today in the memory of my grandmother. Ruth Walker Womeldorf was a Christian, a professional religious educator and a sharp lady. She was raised in Jackson, Mississippi back when abortion was illegal. It really surprised me
when I found out that she supported legal abortion. She had, it turns out, seen too many women die as a result of illegal abortions.
